TurnOver Change Management
Faster Implementation, More Audit Options
With TurnOver 5.4
New Application Designer and other enhancements support faster implementation and compliance mandates
Peterborough, N.H. April 4, 2005 SoftLanding Systems today announces the general availability of TurnOver 5.4. TurnOver offers integrated change management, version control, deployment, project management, and issue tracking for iSeries, Web, PC, and client/server application development.
At the heart of Version 5.4 is a new Eclipse-based Administrator module that simplifies application setup and configuration. Run as a stand-alone module or as an Eclipse plug-in, the module's Application Designer lets administrators create and maintain application definitions in a visual format. Application definitions define and control how software changes progress and how each component is handled at every stage of development.
The visual presentation of application definitions in TurnOver 5.4 makes it possible for developers to understand at a glance how an application is defined and managed. To define a new application, users simply bring up an Application Wizard and fill out the prompts. Defaults can be easily overridden for unique or more complex requirements.
"Many of our new customers are under pressure to get change management up and running quickly, particularly those facing tight SOX compliance deadlines. With this release, we have taken ease of implementation to a completely new level. Two new Eclipse frameworks made it possible for us to leapfrog years of intensive development effort to bring this sophisticated technology to the iSeries," said Steve Gapp, president and CEO of SoftLanding Systems.
The TurnOver Administrator also automates many common tasks to make it fast and easy to maintain applications. For example, when an administrator adds or removes an application level, the application definition automatically adjusts associated data, such as "from" and "target" library names.
"The new Application Designer is easy to use, and it will be very useful in familiarizing new hires with our software environment. It consolidates a lot of information into one easy-to-understand picture. I'm a visual person, and I really liked the Eclipse look and feel," said Hugh Vance, customer service manager at Butler & Curless Associates, a leading business-to-business e-commerce technology company.
Continuing TurnOver's tradition for flexibility and open architecture, TurnOver 5.4 also includes several new APIs as well as a new version control option. A new module, TurnOverSVN, provides Java, PC, and Web source version control under the framework of TurnOver's issue tracking, project management, deployment, and change history capabilities. TurnOver users can implement TurnOverSVN with no license fee (it does carry a nominal per-developer software subscription for packaged updates and technical support), or they can continue to use other version management solutions.
Other new TurnOver 5.4 features address audit requirements. For instance, in order to maintain an application definition in TurnOver 5.4, users must check it out. Associated changes are tracked, providing more granular auditing and the ability to recover previous definitions. Furthermore, users can export application definitions as JPEG and XML files. This is very useful when documenting applications internally or for auditing purposes. Administrators can email these files to branches of their company that use TurnOver or to an external auditor who might want a copy of an application definition to store as part of the auditing record. This convenient feature will also help us provide an even higher level of technical support to our customers.
Auditing is also enhanced by the release of TurnOverSVN. Because TurnOverSVN leverages TurnOver's lifecycle management and database, all change history information for iSeries and non-iSeries development teams - including issue tracking, project management, and deployment - is consolidated into a single OS/400 database. Companies can print or display all activity associated with a task in chronological sequence for a complete audit trail. This includes changes to the task itself as well as all other TurnOver operations performed across development teams.
