A TurnOver User’s Transition Story

Moving to the TurnOver 5.4 Eclipse Client

Has the buzz surrounding all the enhancements included in TurnOver 5.4 piqued your interest in exploring the new Eclipse-based client? Or perhaps you are considering ways to optimize or expand your use of TurnOver and need some inspiration.

Here is the tale of a long-time TurnOver green screen user who took advantage of SoftLanding’s free TurnOver 5.4 Webinars and set out on a path to achieving these goals and more.

A seasoned TurnOver customer, Dave Altvater, Application Development Manager at Bunzl USA, Inc., recently attended our Eclipse Client Overview Webinar to learn more about TurnOver 5.4 and to prepare for an upcoming Sarbanes-Oxley audit. Dave has been using TurnOver for 10 years and, like many of you, could navigate green screen TurnOver with his eyes closed. Dave says they had training when TurnOver was initially installed and have been humming happily along for many years. He believed their change management process was sound. However, after seeing the new TurnOver Client and hearing about our TurnOver Audit Service during the Webinar, he felt it prudent to have another set of eyes look at their TurnOver configuration.

Bunzl also wanted to expand their use of TurnOver to include TurnOverSVN for managing their small Java application and a Web application. Before tackling another facet of TurnOver, and in preparation for their scheduled SOX audit, Dave asked us to come on site to perform a TurnOver Audit.

During our five days on site, we interviewed key personnel and reviewed their TurnOver configuration and their general change management practices. We confirmed that Bunzl was already following many best practices for change management, and was in good shape for meeting SOX auditing requirements.

We did make additional recommendations, which Bunzl put into place while we were on site. Our consultant also implemented TurnOverSVN, while educating two of their developers about its use. Dave himself upgraded to the new 5.4 Eclipse-based TurnOver Client. He says our on-site visit gave him the motivation he needed to quickly transition from the green screen to the new client. And he loves it!

Dozens of customers are using the new Eclipse-based Client, and their feedback has been positive and enthusiastic. One comment we often hear is that it “is so much easier to use, and there really is more functionality.” Many of these customers confess that they live and die by the green screen. However, having taken the first step to the client, they report that they are glad they made the move.
