BCD's Spool-Explorer/400 Version 4.0 Links to Nexus WOW — Web Object Warehouse, MoreFOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE CHICAGO — October 18, 2004 — The product development team at Business Computer Design (BCD) has just completed enhancements to a new edition of Spool-Explorer/400, the software toolmaker's award-winning i5, iSeries, and AS/400 spool file management solution. Spool-Explorer/400 is a Client-Server application that provides direct access to iSeries - AS/400 spool files for local or remote PC users. Users can save those spool files to their PC, email them, deliver reports as HTML, or print them as Adobe PDFs. The fourth major release of Spool-Explorer/400 builds on the strengths inherent in the product, and advances its ease-of-use and feature set. V 4.0 includes dramatic user interface enhancements, a seamless interface to the Nexus Portal, and enhanced PDF, RTF, and HTML generation capabilities. Spool-Explorer/400 is distributed in the UK by SoftLanding Europe Plc. Improved User InterfaceSpool-Explorer now has a streamlined user interface that is far more intuitive and easier to use. A process that might have taken multiple steps in a previous release of the product may now require only a single click. Also contributing to this simplicity is a Folder View, or "tree view" for spool files, making it easier to browse and manage files. Also, a new Enhanced Save Dialog feature makes it easier to receive and convert spool files to PDF, RTF, and HTML formats. Configuration WizardThe initial setup of Spool-Explorer/400 now takes only minutes thanks to a new configuration wizard. Occasional configuration changes are also simplified as a result of this improved interface. Interface to Nexus Web Object Warehouse (WOW)Nexus, BCD's Web Portal solution, includes an object archival, search, and retrieval system called the WOW. The link between Spool-Explorer/400 and the Nexus WOW simplifies the archiving and management of spool files directly from this spool management system. Previously users would undertake a few additional steps and import the spool files from Nexus. The link to the Nexus WOW data repository also permits search values to be automatically extracted from reports, streamlining the archiving process. Users can define a multitude of different values to use for future document searches. These values are then automatically extracted from the spool files. Security is automatically assigned by the Nexus WOW based on spool file attributes and search values. This restricts access to files stored in the WOW. Darrell Jackson, Spool-Explorer/400's lead developer says, "The interface between Spool-Explorer/400 version 4 and the Nexus WOW gives end users the power to add ad-hoc and mined documents to the repository easily and quickly." Another big timesaver added to Spool-Explorer/400 in v4.0 is the ability to easily create and use profiles to save search criteria. This new features allows users to define several parameters that pertain to the way documents are handled. Overlays and bookmarks can be defined, or the profile can contain instructions to compress and encrypt specified documents. Through this feature, the repetitive task of defining these features is eliminated. Enhanced PDF, RTF, and HTML GenerationNow PDF and RTF documents and HTML pages generated with Spool-Explorer/400 can include any TrueType font. This affords far more control over the appearance of documents created with Spool-Explorer/400. Additionally, PDFs can now be compressed and encrypted within this spool file management solution.
