PDQ Shrinks Conversion Downtime Like Magic for The Copeland Companies
The Copeland Companies is a premier Financial Planning For Retirement specialist in most markets across the nation. Because the business depends on massive data files, its year 2000 conversion project posed a critical business problem: 67 - 80 hours of downtime associated with converting highly active data files containing a total of 226 million records, and then several more hours for program turnovers and recompiles to be installed on two mirrored systems. Since the IS staff had only one weekend of downtime available, they needed a creative solution to keep the project on track. That's where TURNOVER® for PDQ v100 came in.
"With PDQ we converted 226 million highly active records during the work week, and simultaneously updated the index entries in the logicals, while our applications remained on-line. We were able to handle our 226 million records, plus another 5 million record updates, without impacting business at all. Since we mirror production data, we replicated the changes onto our backup system. On the weekend, we took the systems down and spent 3-4 hours preparing and moving the converted data files and associated logicals into production libraries for both systems. Then we tackled the program turnovers and recompiles. We brought the system back up well within our goal of 2 days, with time remaining for QA testing.

14 GB DASD Reclaimed at Washington Corporations
